November 29, 2018 update
The #hardestworkingteaminusa made way for the electrician, plumber and HVAC team to get their business done. We also owe a special thanks to our nephew Jake and his girlfriend Sonia for sanitizing our crawlspace from the mold and mildew that blossomed during the excessive rain and heat we had over September and October.
Yesterday Madison County home inspection gave us the OK to insulate and sheetrock (cover it up). Impressed the inspector did not flag anything. Again, we owe this to Hansel Bray and team. So in comes the insulation and sheetrock.
Siding
We originally planned to install conventional siding and paint the house a deep navy blue. I was excited about this, but Landus’ partner and artist looked at me and asked: “why aren’t you using metal?” I was knocked off my feet with the concept – especially thinking of this home as low maintenance! So I started looking at the options. Many of the options are beautiful and the color choices were amazing, but the cost of U line or some of the other hidden fastener types was too high and took too long to get. There were types in stock that were a low corrugation, but the compromise was to use the standard color in the hi-core corrugated metal and receive it in 3-4 weeks vs custom order. We are working with Georgia Metals here in Danielsville, GA and they are working with McElroy Metal.
You can see below a mock-up I did through the visualizer tool on McElroy Metal’s website. We selected a charcoal gray in a horizontal orientation with an accent of ash gray running vertically in the center on the back.
We wanted to utilize some accent material for around the windows and doors. We selected Tiger Wood (which is a tropical hardwood with a random tiger stripe, not a famous golfer). We ordered this through Advantage Lumber.
Yesterday the wood arrived and they started installing today!
