Barn Plans
We had to have this part of the project complete in time to get out of our warehouse lease. They ended up letting us rent another month which helped immensely! So we completed the move June 30.
We evaluated the size of our rental warehouse which was 40′ x 50′ with an office space of 6 offices a 1/2 bath, a kitchenette, a large entry, and a conference room. This was nice to have, but not required.
For the warehouse space, we dropped it down to 34′ x 50′. We have an 18′ x 34′ conditioned office space and there is a loft space above the office that opens to the warehouse / barn.

The loft space turned out to be far more usable space than we expected. Upon entry to the Barn, there is a small utility closet where we house the water pump and the hot water heater. We originally planned to only include a 1/2 bath, but we realized when we sold our house, we would likely have to live in this place while we built our new house… and we are.
To prepare for the inevitable, we changed the plans just a little to include a full bath and a little more equipped kitchenette but we did not put in an oven. We have a toaster oven and a microwave oven and one of those griddle gas grills outside. I must add a section on oven-less cooking. We also added a washer dryer connection in the barn area. Landus can decide what to do with it when we move into the house.
Landus has now built his E331 test chamber and we have a cool, narrow stairway that goes up to the loft. We love the loft. I feel like we could eventually close it in and have a second floor of conditioned space if we wanted to.

We debated insulation but realized if we did not do it now, it would cost us more after all the “stuff” was in the barn. We bit the bullet and watched one man come in and insulate the entire place in a half a day. He used long poles and a scissor lift our nephew had gotten for us. We’ve managed to put up some of the wood on the walls, but I’m simply not strong enough to help up higher than the first or second round and it is not a one-man job for the third and fourth row anyway!
This week the hardest working crew in the US is installing the wood on the walls and ceiling of the barn so the next photos I share will be after we have that work complete.
